WHAT DOES RAW,TUMBLE, AND CABOCHON MEAN?
We sell 3 different types of stone profiles, raw (R), tumbled (T), and cabochons. Here's a quick breakdown of what these names mean:
Raw stones are in their natural form; rough and unpolished.
Tumbled stones make up the majority of our earring selection, they are raw stones that have literally been tumbled in a barrel with "Rock tumbler grit", also known as "rock polishing grit"; this is a silicon carbide powder that is much harder than the types of rocks that are commonly polished in a rock tumbler. When it is tumbled in a barrel with rocks and water the abrasion caused by the grit particles rounds the sharp edges off of the rocks to give them a nice smooth texture and reflective shine that also helps highlight the natural beauty of the stone.
Cabochons are gemstones that have been shaped and polished, most of our cabochon options are sphere-shaped.
