Diamond Quartz / Black Diamond Quartz is the same in crystalline makeup as Herkimer diamonds, the only difference being that the anthraxolite inclusions are often more commonly found in Diamond quartz/Black Diamond Quartz and they are not exclusively harvested from Herkimer New York. These crystals formed extremely slowly & are close to five hundred million years old. Formation takes place in small solution cavities or vugs. They can also form in larger cavities called pockets these are several feet in diameter and are unique for their commonly occurring double terminations.
These stones are found clear, cloudy, or smokey & can contain a variety of rare impurities. Some crystals contain anthraxolite or decayed plant life. The anthraxolite resembles bits of black coal within the crystals. The rarest of inclusions is yellow colored petroleum.
